Ratt pocházejí z Los Angeles a byli založeni v roce 1982 Pearcym, který zkrátil jméno své původní formace Mickey Ratt. K němu se přidali Lee a z Enforcer DeMartini. Klasické obsazení pak vzniklo kolem roku 1982 příchodem Crouciera, který nahrál s Donem Dokkenem jeho první album a od Vica Vergata se k Ratt připojil Blotzer. Prvním společným počinem je mini LP „Ratt“, po jehož vydání Lee odchází a na jeho místo nastupuje Robin Crosby. Podepisují smlouvu s Atlantic a v červenci 1983 vystupují v Beverly Theatre, což je první a současně i poslední vystoupení metalové skupiny v tomto divadle. Hned první dlouhohrající deska „Out Of The Cellar“ získala ve Státech dvojnásobnou platinu. Skoro celý rok pak tráví na cestách. V březnu 1985 startují první turné po Japonsku. Ve stejném roce vystupují na festivalu v Castle Doningtonu. O dva roky později vystupují na německých Monsters Of Rock festivalech a vyrážejí na turné s Poison. Album „Reach For The Sky“ vznikalo v A&M studiích v Los Angeles pod vedením producenta Mika Stona. O produkci alba „Detonator“ se podělili Sir Arthur Payson a Desmond Child. Posledně jmenovaný se podílel i jako spoluautor písní. Následují společné koncerty s The Almighty. V roce 1991 odchází Crosby, který je o něco málo později následován Pearcym. Na trhu se objevuje video Detonator Videoaction 1991 a výběrové album „Ratt & Roll“. V roce 1997, jako předzvěst možného obnovení činnosti Ratt, vychází sbírka „Collage“ starého studiového „odpadu“.
